1 July Wales → Kotzebue, Alaska
Pacific kittiwakes.
Before leaving Wales, we took a look at
The nest? The White Wagtail which had
been located by L. Pleyton before our
arrival. When 1st found There were
3 eggs, now there were 5 - all
sweel with reddish-brown spots. The
nest was in the 2nd story (attic) of a old
shark - + was constructed of grass
& well shaped, deep cup. This
is the first nesting record for North
America.
We left Wales at 1630, headed north
along the beach. Large flocks of
immature (primary moult) Glauconous
Cull, Arctic Terns, Subarctic gulls &
Some sides (Common - some in eclipse - but
still flying). 8 cranes were seen
in the marshy areas along De Spits.
Arrived Shushunef at 1800. This is
a relatively clear little village
located on a black-grass site, makes
it very "gizzalig" - compared to Barrow.
Left at 1738, flew up along the
cost of the inland to Goodhope Bay
& on to Deering, just north of
Shushunef, a gravel island we
