Holmes,R 1961 Journal 30. July Wales-> Kotzebue, Alaska A downche-giving c. distraction clezper was observed. This was typical / The Sandgaper. i That tail was spread, t fanned, wings dropped thr flagged; This was accompanied by a whining note. The weather today was windy & rainy - again with constant rain all day. The temperature ranged in the high 40's t low 50's. In the afternoon, Fullratt- D flew with Filder up the Ment River To take a look at this area... (Apr of Swans seen on lake just east / Ne & E side of Lepplogan) - Saw Long-t gargar, but little other signs / life - Could not land due to high water in the rivers covering the gravel bars. Landing may be difficult regardless, because of short stretches of bars - but we could not determine this. From here we swept out To the outer shore and flew The islands so to Wales. Arctic Terns, Glaucous Gulls, Solonie Gull seen Nothing. We stopped briefly on The Middle Island - Saw several Red-breeds, Common Eiders & 4 Sandhill Cranes. [illegible]
