Sandpiper are also found at these higher altitudes. A pair of Ravens perched high in the rocky pinnacles.
Longspurs - were omnipresent. Golden Plovers also occurred here, but were not too common - only 2 or 3 pairs were seen (They seemed to have a different dialect from Barrow's birds - some notes were similar, see Dr. Whudlee, whudlee, notes, but the general call note differed in quality in that it was lower pitched).
In the lower part of village creek canyon (The 1st are east of Wales), Western Slope was again encountered commonly. It was surprising to see small flocks of 5-6 birds all flying / or feeding together. Occasionally, there appeared to be chosen where 1 individual was giving a "zleep" call note. This gathering was seen quite commonly and may indicate the end of fruit terminality. (Williams at Cape Thompson says the Western maintains exclusive territories and does not flock until after breeding is completed). In the stream bottom where the stream emerges from the canyon,
