24 June Barrow-Wales, Alaska
old shole, 2 buildings So. Tour
quarters. By 2300, The fog had
settled in & it was raining. Fields took
off for Nome for refueling & Chester
is staying with his mother in low,
Tewuk - in the village.
30 June Wales, Alaska
Arose, had breakfast with the NEL family,+
took off for DeField - checking traps on the way.
Weather overcast + rainy, light wind from
S.E. Walked with Peyton + Sullivan across
the flat behind the village & up the slope of
Cape mountain. Western Sandpipers were
seen commonly in the flatlands, as were
philomemis red-lobes, longspurs, redpolls, + yellow
Wagtails. The Westerns continued up the
mountain to the 1st bench, then petered out.
Snow buntings became more common in the
rocky areas and then in the upland
swales. philomemis was encountered, along
with a few Western. Water pipits,
Ravens, Duntings + occas. Baird Sdp. were also
seen. In the afternoon, Sullivan and I
walked to Lapp Lagoon through the
marshy tundra. Red-lobes pheasants
were the most common. One female
