Holmes,R 1961 Journal 29June Barrow->Wales, Alaska Wamught - due North. 1331 - 2gull mormael Lake, 1 Pomarine Jaigar. 1335 - Southot Point Lay - Litz 12-15 Beluga along the shore between Point Lay and Cape Beautfort (LizA)-1355. At This point we encountered The Lisboure Hill & turned directly inland - flying on a straight course past Mt. Kelley to Kotzebue. On the W. slope of Mt. Kelley- There were sevener 1000 caribou, feeding + resting. 1445 - entered The Noatak Valley - Arctic Terns, Glaucous Gulls, Occas. Pægans seen. 1500- nearing Kotzebue, which is located on a thin piece of land on the NW coast of The Baldwin Peninsula. There is some hundred new village, but most of the area is grassy, tundra-like habitat. Near the airport, birds seen included White-on Sparrows, Yellow Wagtail, Western & Semi-palmated Sandpipers, Arctic Terns, Glaucous Gulls & Long-t. Jaigar. At 1745, after having dinner at Rotman's Cafe & after refueling, we flew South from Kotzebue along The Baldwin Peninsula and then across Eggschovitz Bay to Kiwalik on The Seward Peninsula. Occasional Gulls were seen along The coast. 1830 - over Deering, a small Eskimo Fishing & Hunting village - flying west directly to Wales. The ground was polygonized in the area inland from
