and therefore becoming difficult to walk
in. The exposed areas are becoming
larger, but there is still
probably ~85% snow cover on the
tundra. The sandpipers were
noted displaying (dunlins, Bails, + Semi-pal.)
and the Spintings and Longspurs
were all noted. Five Ptarmigs (1or)
were seen flying towards the N.W.
12 June Barrow, Alaska
1000-1130. Drum area. The snow is
becoming soft, making travel difficult.
The Sdps. were still making their
flight displays and were seen
chasing over the tundra. Two Wh-Gr.
Geese, 5 Ptarmigs, and 1 Short-eared
Owl were seen.
1300-1630. Drove with EAP. Through Voth's
Area Voth's slough, and over to
the Area S. o. of the village. The higher
ridges in this area are becoming
cleared of snow. However the lower
areas are still covered. At least
5 Pomarine Jaegers were seen
and 1 Por. (??) t Snowy Owl)
and Short-eared Owls. The shorebirds
are paired up with only an
occasional individual being seen.
