Holmes,R. 1961 Journal 26 June Barrow, Alaska Pectorals - all Mr. 2078 were seen standing + feeding. Occasional Longspur were heard - but life was very inactive 27 June Morning spent finishing up samples and trying to close down the Berleis - but no luck at the latter point. Weather was genuinely weird, but there were patchy sunshine. A light wind was blowing from the north. In the afternoon, I went to the insect plots + took more sample. In evening spent in repair tape records + setting up new insect sample - when just arrived this evening. 27 June Barrow, Alaska Spent all morning trying to set up the vacuum insect net + sorting pond samples. K. Tuvah finally got the motor started right after lunch + Bohusack and I went to The Pearl Ridge to try it out. At the tower we felt we were getting very little - but when Ms. Debi, was put into a breeze - Mummichog, midges, spiders, + Small Clie were found. - This may be a very effective way of sampling surface insect populations. Weather today was cold (wet). Evening spent sorting sample. 14.
