The day was overcast, [illegible] with windy. 17 June Barrow, Alaska Took Johnson to Bead ridge, central marsh, [illegible] to look over tundra. Several soil samples were taken to try out his Berlese, which are makeshift, but yet small and portable. In the afternoon, Sullivan and I put out the traps near Voth's area & (Ensured Pitelka) Plot. Bird life was extremely sparse - the plot - only 2 birds. [illegible], 2 p.m., RB (incl. 1 nest), etc. See species accounts. Weather today has been warm, hazy - with clear overcast skies - temp. probably in high 40's, low 50's. Lemming activity is still poor, only few have been seen.
