Holmes.R. 1961 Journal, 12. 16 June Barrow, Alaska and I went to Dr. Nalakhtub in the village. The day was overcast, [illegible] with windy. 17 June Barrow, Alaska Took Johnson to Bead ridge, central marsh, [illegible] to look over tundra. Several soil samples were taken to try out his Berlese, which are makeshift, but yet small and portable. In the afternoon, Sullivan and I put out the traps near Voth's area & (Ensured Pitelka) Plot. Bird life was extremely sparse - the plot - only 2 birds. [illegible], 2 p.m., RB (incl. 1 nest), etc. See species accounts. Weather today has been warm, hazy - with clear overcast skies - temp. probably in high 40's, low 50's. Lemming activity is still poor, only few have been seen. Mullet Chamberlain have flown to Pitt Point to check on lemming abundance and to run the traplines. 18 June Barrow, Alaska We stayed in the lab all morning working up insect samples. In the afternoon, Johnson & I went to the area no. 1 Trapline IV A+B - & I took more insect samples. In the evening, I went with Sullivan to the traplines - since the group brown
