Holmes,R 1961 Journal 94. 11 June Barrow, Alaska The whole season is early. 1st Ranunculus. Lemming are par. Have scarcely three - we seen today behind the lot on the edge the drum area. The village sample has declined considerably - to almost nothing. No signs as seen in the tunnels- other than last years runways. The holes are blocked with an ice plug. So the presence of lemming can be precisely obtained. Now in some areas high polygons where they may be - but they are now hard to catch my. The predators (foxes & some owls - jures) are still here & may well finish off the remaining animals (with the 1 captured today - was a pregnant 4). 12 June Barrow, Alaska Stayed in this morning to check out supplies + finishing specimens. In the afternoon, I went to The area No 1 Tropilus IIIA-B + set out No insect sampling area (for description see Insect sampling sheets). The evening was spent in sorting samples. The weather today was clear with a slight wind, blowing from the NE. A fog arose in the late afternoon. 13 June - Another clear & almost cloudless day. A breeze came up in the late morning
