7 June Barrow, Alaska
In the afternoon, I worked Vath's area again. When
I refer to Vath's area, I usually mean The tundra
to the North of it - near traplines, III A + B. This
means working The tundra which sides 1
The new good road. This area is poor
because there are some pals-(plentiful)-Redbark,
peckforest & a few bairds. The weather today
has been poor. During the morning cold -3E winds
blew constantly. In the afternoon this let up
slightly but it was still uncomfortable & work
operations difficult.
In the evening Chamberlain and I drove
to the area S.O. of the village but could
not get across to The tryoid area where
shrewbird activity had been reported that
afternoon. Little bird activity was noted. One
owl was seen below the village.
8 June Barrow, Alaska
Spend the morning in the lab preparing specimens +
writing field notes. In the afternoon, I went to Oath's
area & obtained some good info on Bairds
& pusellus (targena). The weather began
to clear off - in the afternoon & by evening
The sun came out. The wind calmed
down. In the evening I went with
Mullen & Chamberlain in the moose,
to an area south of the village where
