Holmes R. 1960 Journal 2 Spt Barrow, Alaska Proused lemming during the morning & early afternoon. Lake in the afternoon. I drove to The beach ridge's central marsh to check the funders. The snow has persisted in many places, but it is existing in snow patches 4-6" in diameter. I estimate that 60-65%. The ground was actually covered. There are drifts being polygonal and in crevices. Lemming activity can be seen in the snow, & where snow has drifted across holes there have been pegeoned by the animals. Therefore, paths of the funders which are being used by lemming are easily seen. Runways from these patches, occasional diggings were seen. The pros were for the most part frozen, some up to 1" in thickness. Bird activity was low with at a few jaegans, 1 Snowy owl 2 Peckers + 1 Redstart seen seen. Weather current & snow My life - temp at 1500 - 27° F. 66.
