Holmes,R. 1960 Journal 57. 18 Aug Barrow, Alaska we had seen many Arctic Terns (Adel+ Jaws.), Soline Gulls (Ads + Jaws), & cereal Glaucon Gulls. After entering in among The ice, we stopped for water at and The large color Ice. This was obtained from a pool - The flows. Thice throughout the day was present in small pieces (160' in diameter) with occasional larger masses, & many small pieces. After about heading out for a hour (5 miles?) - we sighted a herd 1 5-6 walrus lying on a small Ice flow. We headed around them so to come upwind & then came within 30 yards of The animals. Three were with any all 9-10 men yard fire with their shoddy rifle & the walrus began to dive into the water. One was killed instantly & the re- maned on The ice. The others were in the water, many! The wounded. One was chased for about 15 minute but it finally sunk out of sight two Others lost. After this
