18 Aug Barrow, Alaska
The traps were checked first thing in the
morning, and then Maker r.d. left with
Ed Hopson to The village & a walrus hunt.
We departed from The Village at 1100
on The Hopson's boat. The boat was
about 30' long and had a small
cabin on The North ½ / The boat
which housed the motor (a crease
motor complete with transmission,
pachator, etc.). A hole was made in
the front to allow The person steering to
see. The front part of The ship was
covered by a tarp which we
revel back when walrus were
sighted. On going out, it was
nearly 2-3 miles before we
came to The first ice. Here we
saw 2 whales, one where I
am sure was a Gray Whale,
The other was not identified.
