Holmes,R. 1960 Journal 16 Aug Barrow= Cape Lisbourne, Alaska After checking The traps the morning, Maker and I flew west to The Neinitz / Cape Lisbourne where we landed on Spearik Lake. The lake was about a mile in diameter with a small island in The center of it. The island was 207' long L 121 feet wide. It was fairly flat along The top - which was 6-8 feet above The surface / The lake. It was rimmed with six foot of gravel beach and then a steep slope up to The plateau. The top / The island is covered with grass - most / which is matted down. Good nesting spots were quite easy to find, since there were definite depressions every 10-15 feet. Many / These were old / for not been used previously for many years. A total of 78 were found on the top, and 47 around The side - making a total of 125 nut cups. A conservative count ever made of those which Appeared to have been used this year. The number here were 28 a
