A few will wander over the
snow but will usually
end up in an exposed area.
S.W. of ARL, Barrow Alaska 1000-1200
(Voth Area). - Many Longspurs and
buntings present on the few exposed
spots. About 6 Red-t. Soap (1col.)
and 2 Pectoral Soap (1wco.) were
seen. Although no pairing was
apparent, the ova in the 9 Pectoral
which was collected were quite
large (5 mm). Very little
microwave sign was noted.
7 June Barrow, Alaska.
1100-1200 - Barrel Area. Weather
overcast and moderate S.E. wind.
The area is still covered
with snow, and the wind is
making matters worse by
couring the areas which were
exposed to become covered
by drifting snow. Longspurs
and buntings are still
abundant - no songs or
other breeding activity was noted
(except 2 buntings in the village).
