Holmes, R. 1960 Journal 3 August Barrow = So Barrow) 3, Alaska Maker, Reynolds, and I left Barrow at 0900 and headed south via the gas well road to Footprint Lake - around the gas well into the dry lake - then S + SE along the marsh E 1 for lake, and the SW to S. Barrow 3 (about 16 miles distance). On the return trip, we headed east from S.B. 3 and the cut NE +N. to Hunter Lake and the west to the gas well + N. to the base along the east side of the gasoline. The main objective The trip was to locate new owl nests + band the young. 9 new nests were found and 34 checker were handled (see owl notes). Information was gathered on all birds seen. Shorebirds were relatively un- common - only a few being seen during the entire trip. The habitats traversed were varied including both ridge + wet marsh + transitional zone, but steel
