11 July Barrow, Alaska
haven, officially at noon only 79°F. The
day was clear, & the mosquitoes, &
were out in full force. There was no wind.
12 July Barrow, Alaska
The morning was spent in Tu Lake, catching
up on paperwork. In the afternoon, I
took things to Denali for a dyeing
experiment, while Carm photographed
from the air. My plot was also
photographed. In the evening, traplines
4A+4B were put out by Warner, Reynolds
& myself. The day was generally over-
cast with only a light breeze. Insects
were also quite common today.
13 July Barrow, Alaska
In the morning, the traplines were checked
near Voth's slough & specimens were
prepared. In the afternoon, Make & I
went to the owl nests in central
Marsh & skipi slough. The owls
seem to be becoming more
aggressive (at least at nest #2). Two Brant
nests were located; one within 35 feet
of owl nest #6. Flocks of Pectoral
Sandpipers are now seen in the marsh,
but other saps are relatively
scarce & are not being seen.
