Holmes, R. 1960 Journal 34. 10 July Ikravik - Barrow, Alaska early breeze which came up & kept the mosquitoes down. In the evening, Carlos Hussey decided to come into the lot & get a plane for photography to take, as I also came in, since things were quiet here. 11 July Barrow, Alaska Caught up on lot work during the morning & checked the trap line near Vopi's Area with Reynolds. In the afternoon, the mud were visited on the meadow ridge & vicinity & photos were taken of the weasels. These weasels were first found by Mulligan, Warner & Reynolds on the beach by The channel on Pikelka's census plot. At this location, there is a large mound with numerous tunnels, etc. The weasels (Mustela rixosa) live in a den within the mound and can be seen easily by putting a lemming near the entrance. Upon doing this, they come out quickly & begin to pull the lemming howards their burrow. Movies & stills were taken of these animals. The day again was stifling. The temp reached here at the lot was 82.
