Holmes, R. 1960 Journal 8 July Barrow - Ikravik, Alaska by the short-tailed owl & Snow Owl nests & arrived at The Wangjan at 1730. In the evening after supper, I censused the North 40 & weighed the southern owl nest (4g). Sunny-southeast wind. 9 July Ikravik, Alaska Today was a bright sunny day with little or no wind until in the evening. The mosquitoes & insects in general were put in full force, making field work difficult & unpleasant. The bird activity was extremely low during this hot period, and censusing was actually futile. A census was made in the morning & then partial one in the evening. The nests were located again today, at Cheleks. No new hatchings were found. 10 July Ikravik, Alaska The plot was censused in the morning & early afternoon. The remainder of the day was spent in taking pictures (35mm + mavis) and on Cheleks egg & nest. Today was another sweater. The high was 71 - low was 53. There were - [illegible]
