Holmes,R. 1960 24. Journal 25 june Ikravuit, Alaska The morning was spent writing pots + checking a methods / insect sampling. After watching several birds feed, I have attempted to obtain a sample of the peat from that particular area. Upon doing this, I am still unable to find arachnids in the sample. It was noted that the birds (e.g. Red-brock) feed by moving along rapidly and only picking one or twice in the same locality. One bird was finical. It moved 35 feet in 58 seconds and made 28 probes during the time. It seems probable that the insect fauna in areas are larger than the was suggested previously. In the afternoon, a census was conducted on the North 40. After supper, Casson D came into camp.
