Holmes,R. 1960 23 june Skowhegan, Alaska In the late evening, I set out and the sand-colored mist nets, but no birds were caught. I think they will work fine if I can get a lot of gulls somewhere, so the net is not situated. 24 june Skowhegan, Alaska Insect Sampling was attempted this morning. First, I collected a sample of sod from a fairly dry area near the wagon. This piece measured 6x1x3' and was mostly composed of grass, grass roots, more, & plant-like material. Very little soil was included. Upon drying the apart, no insect-life could be found. A second sample was taken from a marshy area. This was the same size as the 1st sample, but contained much more moss, & debris (cat grass, etc.). Here again, no insects were found upon total decimation. The sample.
