Holmes, R. 1960 Journal 10. 3 June Barrow, Alaska Late, The Cloon lagoon - Bobzih - Wold - area non visitor began & the various Starbirda activits are recorded. The species account. 4 June Barrow, Alaska The drum area was checked this morning for signs of activity. Little was seen or heard. The noise from the camp nearly drowns out any displays in this area. During the afternoon, I went with Mullin out to the Neod ridge & he took his blood sample, etc., while I checked on the Arctic lemming. Birds were scarce in this area and only trumpeters, an occasional joger, & paired Baird sandpiper were seen. Lemmings were rather hard to catch and seemed rather scarce. In the area of the Neod ridge between the two sets of leveret antennae so where the flock gulls has been working, & in this area, lemmings seen extremely scarce. Apparently the group 14 to 70 (reduced) was enough to reduce the population. In the evening, Pitkela and I drove out to the north Neod ridge to check on the lemming situation. Several ammas were seen.
