Holmes,R 1960 Journal 5. 31 may Barrow, Alaska caught this year seems unusually high. According to Max Brown, one was caught early this spring & is now in the freezer. Another was picked up by Mullin & my by Maher. Both [illegible] died. Today, I found one near Wohlchloy Slough, and one was brought in by a boy at the village. These two are still alive & will be kept for breeding purposes, if possible. The evening was spent over near Elson Lagoon. This seems to be the only place where shore birds are seen. With the exceptions of 1 dunlin at the west side of Footprint Lake & 1 in the drummers, all other shorebirds seen by Maher & myself have been along the shore of Elson Lagoon near Wohlchloy & Dotpeto Sloughs. 1 June Barrow, Alaska Drove to the west shore. I knowaville are checked for census areas. The ridge along the shore is about 75-100 yards wide with a shelf running out towards the lake, which is about 200 yards wide. This area where buses about 1 mile south of the north end of the lake, extends for 1/2-2 miles
