Fence Lizard 5 cat (?) sp 1 I heard a hoarse screaming "haw haw, hawk" several times, usually in groups of three, which carried a long ways. I got to within 100 yds. of the sound and could hear the sounds of throat very clearly - a gurgling growl behind the screams. This did not sound at all like a canine call but impressed me as cat-like, either bobcat or mountain lion. It moved away very rapidly, calling every couple of minutes until it must have been at least 1/2 mile away. Univ. of Calif.
