dark back and white rump, dusty primaries. ~ first. identified by

Sep. 14 North end Salton Sea, Riverside Co.: 2
Sep. 15 South end Salton Sea, Tempeuil
Sep. 15 San Diego offshore boat trip: 50 -> W, mostly imms.
Sep. 27 Moss Landing, Monterey Co., Calif: 1 ad. ident. by black shoulder
mark. However at the Arcata sewage ponds on Sept. 29
a Forster's Tern (by eye patch) was also seen to have this black
shoulder mark; this mark was seen by Kimball Garrett, Ron LeValley,
Steve Bailey, Val DaCosta and others. The Common Tern at
Moss Landing did have a Common Tern shaped eye patch.
Oct. 6 Monterey area, Monterey Co., Calif: 1 ad. Pt. Pinos prominent
dark shoulder patches, dark primaries.
