Remsen, J.V. 1973 Bar-tailed Godwit Limosa lapponica Oct. 27 (cont) Description: differed from Marbled Godwit in following ways (1) rump area paler than back or tail - not clean white as in European Bar-tailed Godwits but barred with brownish as in L.L. bageni - siberian race. (2) conspicuous eyeline highlighted by strongly contrasting dark cap (3) back with numerous dark streakings // to body axis - different from cross-hatching on Marbled's back (4) overall coloration lacking the rufous tone of Marbled - upperparts darker brown and underparts much paler and nearly completely devoid of pattern. (5) bill seemed pink (6) slightly smaller (not very noticeable) than Marbled Godwits when together (7) call note very different, but unfortunately I can't remember what it was like photo by Mike Wihler
