Loggerhead Shrike Swainson's Thrush July 11 Castro Valley Ranch, Gilroy, Santa Clara Co, Calif: (Turn right at Castro Valley Rd a few miles S. of Gilroy ~ same road as Gavilan College Sign - private ranch - entry impossible without permission) Time: 0845-1020 Wind: 0-5 Temp: 50-55 Sky: overcast, foggy Habitat: Live Oak woods intermingled with chaparral separated by expanses of foothill grassland (cattle grazing). Several man-made ponds with willows and cattails, several pockets of mesic woodland, even with some redwood. Very wild and beautiful. Other Observers: Bruce G.
