Also had very white sides Sep. 18 Moss Landing, Monterey Co., Calif: 2♂ with very broad black nails on bill tip, round head shape. Sep-23 Pescadero Marsh, San Mateo Co., Calif: 1 ♂ ident by long wing stripe Sep. 27 Half Moon Bay, San Mateo Co., Calif: 1 ♂ Princeton Harbor; " Sep. 29 Eureka area, Humboldt Co., Calif: 100 on Arcata sewage ponds. The broad nail could be seen on the birds from 200+ yards away through the telescope Nov. 3 Point Reyes, Marin Co., Calif: 100+ Nov. 11 Stovepipe Wells, Death Valley N.M., Inyo Co., Calif: 1 ♀. sitting on sewage pond. When flushed, the long white wing stripe, prominent to near the wingtips was clearly noted by all. Thought to be Greater by R. Stallcup when sitting because of a very chocolate brown head contrasting strongly with a large, sharply outlined face patch.
