Remsen, J.V. 1973 Raccoon Procyon lotor July 4 373 Gravatt Dr, Oakland, Alameda Co, Calif: 1 ♀ (prominent teeth) cautiously approached me while eating my dinner on the front patio. I went inside and got some "Wheat Thins" while she decided that the spaghetti sauce left on my plate wasn't edible. Wheat Thins were acceptable and she came as close as three feet to get them and a whole package of graham crackers. She would have come closer but I shooshed her back. She finally tired of crackers, after eating them squatting on her haunches right in front of us. July 8 373 Gravatt: Probably same individual appeared at 0350 and ate stean fat, bread, graham crackers. Appeared again at 2000 and waited at the glass door until we brought it food - bread, chicken fat, graham crackers July 9 373 Gravatt: Female brought her two cubs to the porch ~ 2100. They all ate graham crackers, chicken fat. Fem. kept youngs from a chicken bone and anything else she was eating. One young bullied the other one. The young were 12-14" long nose to tail tip. When a dog passed by, they all scurried into the bushes. On both occasions (happened twice) the subordinate young one was lagging behind in the retreat to the bushes. The female had come at 2005 while it was still light to eat two peanut butter + jelly sandwiches, but did not bring the young until after dark. July 10 373 Gravatt: ♀ under bird feeder at 1815; looked up at me on balcony as if to beg for food. July 18 373 Gravatt: one came to back door and I fed it left over pancakes. Mrs. Asling tells me one has been here every night, but the female's babies have not returned. Mrs. Asling claims two adults were here on July 17. July 26 373 Gravatt: two adults squabbling over scraps. July 27 373 Gravatt: 1 July 29 373 Gravatt: 1 begging on porch. It comes up to the screen door and scratches on it to get your attention and then sits and stares in the window until fed.
