All animals were in good condition, except N. fuscipes which was sweating.
The temp. was in the low 50's early, but quickly increased as the morning passed.
Last night was cloudy to clear, with no moon.
I spent the rest of the morning with Patrick Kelley. We
found the Calhoun line in the Chaparral at the top of Haystack
Hill - I'll trap there tonight.
8:1440 - finished setting Trapline II.
Trapline II - Madrone Canyon, starts ~ 1/4 mi past laboratory. 10 stations,
2 traps per, both w/in 1 meter. Bait - rolled oats & birdseed.
10-20m between traps. Complex riparian habitat. No posset
along most of stream. Soil litter very deep where grass
isn't growing.
Trapline III ~ Chapatal Calhoun line, starts just west of Haystack
Hill point, and runs SSW through Chimise. Numbered
posts are about 5m I apart. Set all tags to the west
of the post, 2 traps per station, traps w/inm of each.
Found bobcat scat in Chimise, and several shelled acorns.
Reset traps on Traplines I, II, III the rest of the afternoon.
Came across a large Rithopis in Long Field - not very friendly!
Max temp: 71o, Min temp 46o
