Hastings Reservation, Monterey Co., CA.
August 20 It sprinkled lightly this morning and remained partly cloudy
and muggy (humid) most of the day. I added two more
columns (stations 5,15-8,15; & 5,16-8,16) to grid EC-1,
and finished setting traps at 1800 hrs. Finished resetting
traps on MC-1 around 1900hrs. High this afternoon in
mid 80s. [Hi=95 Low 60 trace rain]
August 21 Clear & calm overnight; moon very bright. Started checking
traps on MC-1 at 0400h (PST, daylight saving time). It is
considerably cooler tonight (upper 60s) and no clouds
0510 - #757 ♀ (7A) - Limegreen on limbs, feet, tail, & mouth. Very faint, but
definitely glow in dark as this color does.
Finished checking traps by 8550 & started on EC-1 at 0615hrs
Mastacopsis lateralis
0630 - Caught a slender snake at station (0,16). It's head was out of the
trap and posterior 2/3 of body in trap. Seemed relatively unharmed. Dark
green w/ Zebraan stripes along its sides. Ventral side whitish w/ black
spots, tail underside rosey colored. Total length about 0.5m.
0650h - Dusked #610 (station 8,15) with RED. Watched her for ~5min, she was
very sluggish, but eventually escaped to the trunk of the recently fallen
oak 3m east of station
0715h - Dusked #835 (station 5,11) with Orange. She escaped to the
east under shrub vegetation
0800h - Dusked #604 (4,13) with Green. He escaped east under
blackberries
Finished checking grid EC-1 by 0800hrs
SUMMARY (MC-1)
P.californicus: 9 captures (4♂:5♀)
P.borlii : 16 captures (4♂:10♀); 1 new animal (♀)
P. huei : 3 captures (1♂:2♀)
N.fuscipes: 5 captures (1♂:4♀)
Total captures = 33
