RIBBLE, D.O. 1980 Journal 47 Hastings Reservation, Monterey Co., CA. August 19 (cont) Summary of Capture Results: P. californicus: 12 total captures (8?, 4?), 1 new animal (0?) P. boylii: 14 total captures (6?, 8?), 1 new animal (0?) P. truei 4 total captures (10?, 3?) Perognathus californicus 1 ? M. californicus 1 ? N. fuscipes 3 captures (210?: 2?) Total captures = 35 Perhaps low capture success is due to heat & moonlight. Also, caught Peromyscus at stations previously dominated by Westoma. The clouds burned off by noon, except for a few high scattered clouds. Today was cooler than yesterday (high 80s). In the afternoon, I set out stations one for a grid in Robertson Creek on Tranline X. The going was slow because I had to cut transects through the poison oak. I was able to finish 20 stations and I set 2 traps at each station to begin monitoring this grid. Designate this grid RC-1. [illegible] See map of grid below. Finished resetting traps on MC-1 around 1800 hrs Aug. 20 0010h (PST - daylight savings) - Out for night checks on MC-1. The moon is full (rose around 2300hrs), and it's warm (mid 70s). 0025h - 1929 ? (st 9,7) - Dark green on tail, feet, tail, & some on ?? mouth & ears. Not much pigment, but definitely contacted ?. 0040h - 762 ? (st 10,6) - Dark green on tail, bars, penis, & tubs. Definite recent contact. Also, some orange on hind feet.
