RIBBLE, D.O. 1980 Journal 43 Hastings Reservation, Monterey Co., CA. July 24. Today was very pleasant, weather-wise. Low 80's, partly cloudy (cumulus), and a slight breeze (up to 10mph). The sun is setting around 2015h (daylight saving time), and it is dark by 2100h. Official Max = 84; Min = 53 (Trace of rain this morning) July 25 Started on the grid at 0520h, still too dark to work w/out flashlight This morning it is clear, calm, upper 50's. The moon is 1/2 full and rose around 0200hrs. very bright. Then there was some fog (clouds) on the valley floors overnight. It finally got light enough to see at 0550h. Around 0630 the fog rolled into Madrow Canyon and eventually lifted to form overcast skies - Finished checking all traps by 0900, and returned to dust the following females I left in traps: 1979 ♀ - Lime Green - Retagged her left ear #895 since right tag is coming off. I used the shake & bake approach which worked well since there wasn't much powder in the bag. She was very slow to escape, seemed stunned. 1991 ♀ - Orange - Held her by the neck's dusted from her shoulders posterior while holding her in bag. Worked well. She escaped to a hole 2m west of station. 796 ♀ - Dark green - same method as 1991 - She escaped under rock (North) 1m down slope from trap station. 1934 ♀ - Red - same method as above. She escaped to the east towards station # B,13.
