The sun burned the fog off around 0830, but clouds were still evident on the western horizon. Hastings Natural History Reservation, Monkey Co., CA. July 24 Arrived at Hastings around 1300h (daylight savings time PT) today. I will be here until July 27 - short trip. My objectives this trip are to monitor grid MC-1 and trap again in Robertson Canyon and West Ravine. Set out traps and backed traps on MC-1 between 1500 and 1800 hrs. Everything appears the same as before, except the creek has no running water at all. Some of the bay trees appear to be losing leaves, too. Set out 20 traps on Transect X (see Journal July 1) at 1630h. Set 2 traps/station at stations 1-10 only. At station #1, oak, a large (~1.5m dbh) had broken about 3m from the ground and fell to the ground. Maybe due to wind? The inside of the base was hollow & blackened inside.
