green, large are, freshly washed on
road, and also heard); Chickaree
(2 heard and seen, up spruce and
crossing road - sound not at all like

This evening in a walk east across
the Seymour's Rim railway bridge, heard
at least 3 Hyloes. Rained last night,
and coming on to rain now (5:30 p.m.),
not cold, though snowing on upper
mountain slopes, perhaps 2,500 ft.
higher up. Saw a flock of 12+
small birds in flight overhead - might
have been Chickarees; also one
Black-headed Jay in cottonwoods
of river bottom. Heard another
Chickaree.

Off east at 7:20 for Banff.
An "open" observation car - scenery
great; woods mixed yellow and
red deciduous trees and dark green
conifers.
9:15 a.m. - At Revelstoke:
first bird seen, one Lone Robin, flying
on meadow bordering woods.
Cloudy, raining gently. Peaks not to
be seen. Red cedars disappeared over the
Selkirks divide. Lodgepoles come in.
Much evidence of snow-slides last
winter; brakeman says more slides
