140 June 13 - Past Mt. Shasta sparse growth of sage brush, occasionally juniper & ceanothus sunflowers. Certainly from Donburn to Edgewood is continuously upper Sonoran, this completely surrounded by Transition, a forest in spots. Canadian might be marked now by lower limit of snow, as its seems to fall about right on into Shasta and Eddy. Birds seen in Short's Valley: English Sparrows 4 (in town); Meadowlark & Calif. yellow Warbler 1; Crow 4; Linnet 3; Red-wing Blackbird, fully. Weed (4:00 p.m.) to Dunsmuir (5:45 p.m.) noted: Western Bluebird 2, Meadowlark Brown Blackbird 4, Violet-green Swallow. Continuously Transition zone, but not one madrone. Silver fir much in evidence, and above Six
