May 3 - D.C. no land say. the folks say that there is a nest building in a rosebush in a neighbor's yard. Other birds seen, casually, around Washington: Chimney Swift (often half-a-dozen or so twittering weakly high overhead); Purple Grackle (two pairs among street trees down near the White House); Robins (loud singing in late evening in the park near the National Museum); English Sparrow (swarming everywhere). at U.S.N.M. - I find that all eggs had been measured and Tabulated under Bendire's supervision - that is, as regards game birds. But only down to .5 mm., evidently nearest even or 5/10. Dr. Means says G.S. Miller is color blind! He cannot properly
