Approximately a dozen wire gopher
traps set in the lower end of
the meadow at Bluff Lake San Bernardino Mt., San Bernardino
Co., Calif. caught two a dull male
gophers and one female. One of the
male gophers was only caught by
one foot, and when pulled from
its burrow, it made success-
ful nites at its fore leg which was
caught in the trap. Once in a
while it would bawne, and make
grating noises with its teeth.
Later examination of the injured
foot showed that all of the toes
had been chewed off, and a
large stump left.
