July 19 Near Bolinas, sealevel-200ft., Marin Co. Calif.
Got one bird very close to where I obtained
the first one a few weeks ago, just at the
top of Mesa Rd. It was in a long clump of
Baccharis along a fence, right along the
road. 2347. It is a ? with enlarged testes
that I could not measure.
July 22 Shot a bird (2,348) at near the entrance to
Agate Beach, same area as 346. This one was
with a speckled bird of the year; may be
mate of 346. Well developed brood patch, very
degenerated.
Aug 6 Mosquito Lakes, 800ft., Alpine Co., Calif.- Neal
Johnson + Jim Anderson reported White-
crowns common here a month ago. Spent
all day in the area today, and saw a
white-crown. Saw one (probably) lower down,
about 7000-7500 ft. None at 6500ft., Big
Meadows.
Sep 18. Lmi N, Dni E Martinez, salt marsh, Contra Costa Co., Calif.
In Baccharis on slope at edge of marsh, found a
rather large flock of white-crowns. Collected 1 bird
in rim plumage. The bird had an unossified
skull and tes 1,rim long. 22.8 gm. PCB 3738.
Oct 1 U.C. Campus, Berkeley Alameda Co., Calif.- Trapped
1 bird yesterday, let him go. Today trapped 3
birds in same trap. First one was banded,
23-15601. I had banded it Mar 16, 1956 as ad ?
