Zonotrichia leucophrys
3.
June 22 Near Bolinas, 200+ ft. Marin Co., Calif. - Vent back
to this area a little after 7:44. Got one bird from
the top of a juniper in the same place as 336.
yesterday shot a & (migr.) from the same perch
as 336, but lost him. This one was only a few
yards away from that spot. Saw some
recently fledged young here. Shot another bird
a little farther along in the same field (339). this
& was originally in the thick stuff, but flew to
the edge of a small clump where I was able to
get him.
June 29 A little farther W in same area, from about
08:30 to 09:30, got 4 birds with 4 shots. All are
apparently 1st year birds. # 342 was taken
from a bush where it was sitting with
another, presumably juvenile, bird. # 343 was
carrying a grasshopper in its bill. It may be
the mate # 344 was shot from a telephone
wire. In one place the birds seemed to be
in a flock, several birds moving away together.
I also noticed this last week.
July 9 Shot a first year bird on the bluff. It was
feeding in the grass on an old trail. (545)
(Ferrumitus)
July 12 Saw a bird near one calling for food. Later got
one from there, I think the same one. 346. It was
a & with small testes, very worn plumage. Shot
him right where the road cuts the beach.
