Aug 6 Big Meadows, 6500 ft. Calaveras Co., Calif. -tolmei.
Among birds recorded were: Junco oreganus
(feeding young), Empidonax sp., Passerella
iliaica, quite common, Dendrocapus sillemi,
Pams gambelli, Sitta sp. Moved on to
Aug 6 Mosquito Lakes, 8000 ft. Alpine Co., Calif.
Arrived here alout 10 AM. Went collecting
till about 3 PM, rested a while then left
alout 6:30 or 7 pm. Saw and collected a
good number of birds, also got a Pama
(x 349)
muscosa out of a pond and shot a
(x 350)
Eutamas out of a tree. Saw: Piranga
ludoviciana, many Tardus migratorius,
niel, many young ones, Cettia fambainis,
Sitta canadensis, Cyanotiea stellar, Dendroica
cindentalis, Euphasus cyanocephals. Collected
2 Pams gambelli, 2 Sitta carolinensis
(both 2's together), 2 Syphapins thyoidens
(not together), 1 Junco oreganus, 1 Dendroica
anchiboni, 1 Hylocichla guttata, 1 Myadestes
townsendi, and just before we left, right
at the first lake got 2 of a group of 3 Lorra,
curvirostra. No Passerella here, common
below. Also saw a Colaptes calas.
Sept 18 Lmi N, 2 mi., E. Martinez's salt marsh, Contra Costa Co., Calif.
Visited this area with Charles Thaler, who had
traps set for Whiciths. The marsh abounded with
Telmatoelytes Palustris and Melospiza melodi.
