Myiarchus cinerascens
Oct. 22 Isla Espiritu Santo, [illegible] Side, Baja Calif. Snn, Mexico -
One seen and collected.
Oct. 25 [illegible] side, Isla Cerralvo, Baja Calif, Mexico - a very
common and noisy bird. Two collected were
in body molt.
Oct. 26 Several seen and heard, but not noticed as much
as yesterday.
Oct. 28 Several seen today.
Oct. 29 Observed one of these birds repeating an action
seen a couple days ago fruit eating. The bird was
([illegible])
in a couple kinds of trees, one a Bursera. It would
fly up under a group of fruits (fleshy water a
large hardseed) and hover picking at the fruits,
then land again. A bird today did this repeatedly.
I could not tell if it was after the fruit or insects, but it
looked like the former. This bird was shot (BCB 900)
and fruits were found in its stomach. The stomach
contained very little identifiable as insect material;
2 large seeds were saved for identification later.
Shortly after this bird was shot, two others were seen
in the immediate vicinity. One of these was
repeatedly attacking the other, and eventually
drove it away.
