June 7 Dean's Meadow, 8400 ft., Lassen Co., Calif.. As I went to bed last night, I heard coyotes in the distance. This morning at 10:15, I looked on the meadow and saw 2 coyotes. One was limping, holding its right front foot up. They walked casually to 3 miles of meadow, then returned to center + went E toward the lake.
June N, June & Mahogany Peak, Lassen Co., Calif., 5000 ft. Flushed one animal about 5 p.m. It had apparently been resting in an area of rocks & logs. It trotted about 50 ft., turned and looked at me for a moment, then trotted off into the forest.
June 9 Bogard Campground, 5600+ ft., Lassen Co., Calif. - Coyote started howling early tonight - at 8 p.m. Sun is barely down below horizon. At 8:30, still very light (light enough to write these notes) they howled again.
