Banks 1958 Journal Calif.-Nev., line 500ft. 1/2 mi. W (mi's Simple Pond, Clark C., Nev. Apr. 5 first time since enroute. Yesterday saw 5 White Pelicans flying up the river. After a couple hours of walking and looking, shot a Dark Rail from a flock in the marsh by the cabin. It is now about 2 P.M. - our plans are to hunt hawks for a while, then clean up and go home. Later: Spent a little over an hour looking for lizards - they had disappeared since this morning. Saw only 2, one of which I captured. Found a Desert Tortoise in a draw leading into the wash which is in front of the cabin. This was about 2:30 P.M. Took a number of color pictures of flowers. The map used in all these locality designations is the "Davis Dam, Nev.- Ariz.-Calif." quadrangle, USGS, 1952 Ed., N 3500-W 11430/15 (15" series). Following is a list of birds seen on the trip.
