Aug 3, Stranberry Canyon, Bakers at 3:57, one bird, first seen in brush pile, worked up to nest. 4:00 one at nest and the other apparently on it. The former poked its head in several times; I could hardly see the back of the other. First we left, there was one still stayed there. 4:11 Dog walked past cage, but no activity from birds. Between 4:20 & 4:25, 8 cars & truck went by, but no disturbance. 4:27 Bird flew down from top of cage or screen, and the other left the nest. The latter flew to box of mash, then to ground and began to scratch litter. 4:31 Both at in brush, at bottom. 4:33 & in brush, worked up, gleaning from brush twice. 4:35 & to brush, to nest, appeared to feed & then settle on nest. Leaving about 1 min. At least 1 scratched until 4:40, without visiting nest.
at 4:45 I put in more litter; & foraged it at once. I was picking from screen over nest, at 4:50, one visited nest. Lost track, at 5:05, & brooding, sat till 2 almost near nest. Egg not hatched. (Hatch by 7pm).
Aug 4 One bird flew from nest area at my arrival at 8:30am.
8:33 I foraging on willows then at artificial food. & scratching in leaf litter. 8:37 both foraging on leaf litter.
8:40 & with something in mouth, visited brush pile, but not nest.
8:45 no visits to nest yet. 8:46 As I was at truck, preparing to enter cage, one bird visited nest. It stayed there. 8:54 a young Carpodacus landed on dec. controller outside cage. At once a Lazanis flew to learn alongside, appeared rather crouched. Linnet flew over top of cage, & bird inside 'chased' it from below, the length of the cage. 8:57 Shopping
