Empidonax hammondi
June 7 Dean's Meadow, 6400 ft., Lassen Co., Calif. - A bird,
recognized to be this form by its song, having
recently heard N. Johnson's recording of it, sitting
at the very top of a 50 ft. White Fir (?) in this
mixed pine-fir forest. It moved so yds. to top
of another tree then flew away. I am at
meadow, perhaps 1000 ft. higher.

Shot one bird, which was sitting quietly, from the
low branches of a yellow pine. Then heard another
a couple trees away-it sang a couple times. It
flew ahead of me about 20-25 yds., then flew
back over my head near where I got the first.
It was originally in low branches, but in the
last tree worked up in the center of the tree to
near the top before I got it. Its song had been
4 notes, in 2 doublets. A moment later a third bird
flew into area. It sang
