Banks 1968 Bubo virginianus June 9 Bogard campground, 5600 ft., Lassen Co., Calif. At dusk heard on and in the distance. Walked out on the sage flat near camp and started hooting. To the N I could hear 2 individuals at the edge of the sage & forest, or just in - one high pitched one further E, + a low-pitched one. Off to the S I could hear 2 others - one high, one low. The low voiced one nearest me (I) flew to the top of a Yellow Pine about 25 yds. from me, then to another about 40 yds from me. Plan it flew mayon to where the S pair was hooting. After while it came back toward me, but on the S side of the flat. After a long time the high voiced one near me flew S to a tree in the sage, then on to the top of a tree in the forest at the edge of the flat. Here I could see both of this pair in the tops of trees, and could still hear the other pair beyond them.
