Salvadora hylipex
April 9 4 mi. S Quartzsite on Rt. 95, Yuma & Arizona
at about 4-4:30 p.m. we spotted this snake lying on the side of the black-top road. It appeared to be dead, with the only movement an occasional twitching of the rear half of the body, which I thought was reflex action. The anterior end was limp, and the tongue was hanging out of the mouth. After 10 minutes or so in the car, on the front seat, the snake got more active, drew the tongue back into the mouth. I put it into a paper bag, and it landed on its back. A good while later it was still on its back. But by the next check it had become active again and had righted itself. This was by 7 p.m.
