Banks 1960 Bufo loreas June 6 Dean's Meadow, 6400+ft., Lassen Co., Calif. One individual (???) sitting, facing out, in a depression just its size. May have been a cow track, but more likely the beginning of a Cistella burrow. Was cold, made little struggle when I picked it up. About 6 feet from water (lake) facing it. Later, found another hopping toward pond at spring at end of the meadow. (?). A good chorus of toads singing all evening. They seem to be a good ways out into the lake, not right at the edge. June 10 Bogard Campground, 5600+ft., Lassen Co., Calif. Saw one individual hopping near camp. June 12 Sand Flat, 6800+ft., Mt. Shasta, Siskiyou Co., Calif. Picked up one small Bufo in the rocks beside the road. It had bright yellow-orange foot pads, esp. on front feet. Saw 2 others about the same size (Lindis). June 13 Saw several others of this same size; collected one (?). All I have seen here have been going the same direction, across the road and up the rocky bank, (NW) away from the flat toward the forest. One I watched made about 5 ft. up and 15 ft. across the bank in about 15 min. It ate an ant, altho it had passed by a couple of others. Its course was marked by sliding back + at least one somersault down the hill, but it showed remarkable agility on the sandy, rocky slope. Finally got to the edge of the Actostephus which forms the forest ground cover. No water either behind or in front of its
