Apr. 1 ranned Kiylets and Verdis also in a patch of
mosquito at the desert edge. Down in the flush-
plain shot a rabbit, which was infected with
slow-fly type cysts, and a large "maggot" which
I preserved. Saw Vermillion Flycatcher doing their
courtship butterfly flight, and Ash-throated
Flycatchers. Shot a Lucy Wabber out of a large
willow, and then a Crisal Thrasher from a
small tree in arrow-weed. Phainopepla's were
abundant, and some Cedar Waxwings around. There
were a lot of Andalus Wankles going past. While
waiting for Ned to get back from hunting 2 bid the
2 mile, when he returned we moved camp back
into the trees to get out of the wind - and it
began to rain! All afternoon it sprinkled off
and on, just enough to keep us from getting any-
thing much done. I finished up the rabbit and
Ned did his Wrightbank, and after supper we
moved to the "Bat House," down the road a
long ways. Here it was dry, at least, and we did
some skins, working till about 9 P.M. Just before
dark in the tree camp at Smigler Ned set 20
rat traps along a ditch, and I set 20 mus. sp.
through the mosquito. There are a lot of holes
all through this area, incl. badger holes. Set
4 rat traps in the Bat House, where there are
no bats but lots of rat sign. (Much bat droppings.)
